Mayor Cornell Dukes announces credit counseling sessions for residents
Mayor Cornell Dukes announced today that budget and credit counseling will be available for residents at City Hall beginning June 11. The counseling will take place the third Tuesday of every month by appointment.
The City has formed a partnership with the Homeownership Center, a program of Mid City Redevelopment
Alliance that offers one-on-one homeownership and budget counseling.
The organization has been providing this community service since 1993 and was named the “Agency of the Year” by the Louisiana Federation of Housing Counselors.
“This personalized, one-on-one service will provide residents with the support they need to achieve their financial goals,” said Mayor Dukes. “I urge any citizen who is struggling to pay their bills, has credit issues, or is interested in becoming a homeowner to take advantage of this opportunity.”
A $35 fee will
cover the cost of obtaining a credit report from all three of the major credit bureaus. Appointments will be scheduled on the second Tuesday of each month.
For residents interested in becoming a homeowner, upon completion of the counseling and training, participants receive a certificate which may qualify them for various down payment and closing cost assistance programs.
The confidential counseling will take place at City Hall. Call (225) 638-5360, ext. 202, to make an appointment.
