Meet Mayor Nelson
Mayor Tommy Nelson was born March 23, 1970, to Thomas and Rosetta Nelson.

Mayor Nelson, a graduate of Catholic High School of Pointe Coupee; joined the United States Army National Guard where he served his country proudly for eight years.

Mayor Nelson earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology, a Master’s Degree in Political Science and a Law Degree from Southern University.

Mayor Nelson is a member of Golden Key International Honor Society, the Political Science Honor Society as well as Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity.

In October of 2002, at thirty-two years of age, Mayor Nelson was elected the youngest and first black Mayor Pro Tem in New Roads’ history.

In October of 2006, at thirty-six years of age, Nelson was elected the youngest Mayor in New Roads’ history.

Mayor Nelson is married to the former Tracey Labry; they are proud parents of twin boys.
