Town Hall Meetings The purpose of the town hall meetings is to bring city government back to the community and provide a forum for you to ask questions, express concerns and provide input regarding quality-of-life issues important to you and your family. Everyone is encouraged to attend at least one of these meetings to share their thoughts on how to make our community a better place to live, work and play. The meetings will be held: Monday, April 27, 2009 Monday, July 27, 2009 Monday, October 26, 2009 6:00 p.m New Roads Branch Parish Library Mayor's Action Challenge We are very excited to embark upon this mission with The Mayors’ Action Challenge for Children and Families. Mayor Tommy Nelson would like to answer the call to action by investing in the vitality of families in our communities by fostering events and programs that promote opportunities to learn and grow; a safer neighborhood to call home; a healthier lifestyle and environment; and a financially fit family. We want to present children with the instruments they need to flourish in any environment. That is why the city of New Roads would like the youth summit to work in collaboration with youth agencies within the city to gain input concerning dropout percentages. Like adults, children need a sense of security. Therefore, the city of New Roads would like to strengthen communication with outreach and neighborhood relations in order to keep our residents safe. The faces of diseases such as diabetes are getting younger and younger due to childhood obesity. The city of New Roads is ready to take action against unhealthy lifestyles by increasing the amount of sports activities for children. In this turbulent economy, it is important that youth learn early how to take care of themselves financially. We hope to implement a summer program that teaches young people how to develop a budget and how to open a bank account. We have set the infrastructure and will shortly take steps toward a safer, healthier, more financially fit New Roads.
