First 100 Days
In his first 100 days, Mayor Myer has already been successful at revamping the city’s budget, improving police protection, improving finances and the delivery of services, cleaning streets and blighted areas, and advancing economic development with new and expanded programs.
One of his first orders of business was to commission a comprehensive audit of the city’s books and an inventory check of all city property. Under the purview of a private, licensed accounting firm, he and the council were able to revise and balance the 2011 budget that was previously on course to be $500,000 in the red. He also has led the way to improve collections on bad debts and outstanding warrants, thereby increasing the city’s revenues three-fold.
He has increased police protection in the city’s "hot zones,” including WalMart, Winn Dixie, local banks, and other commercial businesses, and community policing has been improved to put local officers on every street in the city each day.
Mayor Myer has improved the city’s response time and connections for utility services. He has worked with the city’s public works department to clean up several blighted areas of the city, including the Oil Mill Property, repair electrical problems on Main Street, and create a storm emergency response team that was activated three times during his first 100 days.
