The bands will be playing in the grassy lot across from City Hall. Please feel free to bring your lawn chairs or blankets and stay a while. The city will be selling soft drinks, and beer.Ice chests are not allowed. Most of our local restaurants will be open for lunch and dinner until 9:00 p.m., on July 3.  Downtown Retail shops will stay open later that night as well.

On July 4, we will have the Annual Boat Parade, starting at 1 p.m., on Morrison Parkway. This year’s theme is“Salute the Troops”, the American Heroes.  There will be several awards in the following categories: Best Decorated Boat, Most Patriotic Boat, and Best Decorated Party Barge, Most Patriotic Party Barge, and Mayor’s Trophy, Founder’s Trophy and Shoulda Gotta Trophy.  The judging will take place on The False River Paddle Club dock, next to Satterfield’s. Be sure to bring your water balloons for The 4thof July Boat Parade. It will be loads of fun for the entire family.

Mayor Daisy noted that this is the 36thconsecutive year that the boat parade has run.  Local citizen Lionel Kleinpeter began the parade with only a few watercrafts.  The City of New Roads took over the event in 2011 and expanded it to bring together the communities of New Roads, Jarreau, Oscar and Ventress to strengthen and continue the False River tradition.

Mayor Daisy said anyone wanting more information on the Independence Day weekend activities can call City Hall at 225-638-5360, Betty Fontaine at ext. 212, or Larenda Broussard at ext. 401.
