Event to Feature Style Show, Pictures with Peter Rabbit and Art Classes
NEW ROADS, La. –The City of New Roads will present its popular three-day spring shopping extravaganza event, Market at the Mill, on April 7-9 at the historic cotton mill located three blocks north of Main Street, at 311 Mill Street in New Roads.
The 6thannual event will include a style show, a variety of local vendors, craftsmen and artisans selling antiques, fine gifts and hand-crafted items, such as pottery, ceramics, glassware, wood and metal works and art. Architectural pieces, collectibles and country furniture also will be on display. Young shoppers can enjoy getting pictures with Peter Rabbit and hands-on art classes.
“Our Market at the Mill event has become a much-anticipated opportunity for shoppers to find one-of-a-kind items. In many ways, it’s become the region’s springtime version of ‘Holly Days,’ which is held each fall in the River Center in downtown Baton Rouge,” Mayor Robert Myer. “One of the nicest things about our event is that it comes with the added beauty and charm of being held in the City of New Roads. Market at the Mill affords our guests a full weekend of shopping, fine dining, beautiful scenery and opportunities for cultural enrichment.”
Guests will pay an entry fee of only $5. Market hours are Friday, April 7, noon to 8 p.m.; Saturday, April 8, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Sunday, April 9, 11 .m. to 4 p.m.
The style show will be held Friday, April 7, at 6 p.m. Pictures with Peter Rabbit are available on Saturday, April 8, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Art classes for children ages 6-12 will be held Saturday, April 8, and Sunday, April 9, at a cost of $5 per person, to offset the expense of the art supplies. Preregistration for the art classes is recommended by contacting Betty Fontaine at 225-638-5360, and parents must remain on site at the market.
The Market at the Mill is housed in the 50,000-square-foot cotton seed oil mill that has stood as a cultural icon for the City of New Roads for many years. The wide open floor plan makes it the perfect venue for many events; particularly, the annual springtime shopping extravaganza.
